Chironomidae LarvaeĀ

- Key to the Higher Taxa and Species of the Lowlands of Northwestern Europe

Alexander G. Klink and Henk K.M. Moller Pillot

Welcome to the Key to the Higher Taxa and Species of the Lowlands of Northwestern Europe. This is the most complete identification guide till thusfar on European Chironomidae larvae. The purpuse of this guide was to produce a uniform and up-to-date interactive identification system for Chironomidae larvae of the northwestern European lowland. In total 203 genera, subgenera and species groups are distinguished and 279 species are treated.

This CD-ROM is part of the series Interactive Identification System for the European Limnofauna (IISEL). This series offers a novel electronic approach to the identification of the limnofauna of northwestern Europe, and is co-produced by Dutch organizations (RIZA, STOWA), which monitor water quality, and the Expert Center for Taxonomic Identification (ETI).

The present CD-ROM introduces the last stage larvae of Chironomidae species of the northwestern European lowlands, offering detailed descriptions and an easy-to-use identification tool. ETI produced the software and Alexander Klink and Henk Moller Pillot compiled all information for this program.
