Superspecies or species-group Corynoneura

Body
Small larvae up to 5 mm long. Living larvae greenish, sometimes thorax stained. The body is very slender. The 2nd and 3d thoracic segments are fused leaving only two thoracic segments. The anterior and posterior parapods are unusually long and both bear crowns of claws. The posterior parapod bears a ventral spine Coryno antenn thorn post pp. Two pairs of anal tubules present. (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984b).

Head
The head length is 0.3 - 0.4 mm and very narrow (Moller Pillot, 1984b).
Antenna
The antenna is longer than the head, with 4 segments. The second and third segments usually light brown Coryno antenna.
Mentum
The mentum with three median teeth and 5 pairs of lateral teeth. The central tooth is reduced and the first lateral tooth is normal Coryno scutell agg mentum.
Labrum
The pecten epipharyngis consists of three spines, SI is simpel and the premandible has up to 12 tiny teeth (Wiederholm, 1983).
Mandible
The mandible with a distal tooth and 4 inner teeth (Wiederholm, 1983).

Differential characteristics
The slender head with the unusually long antenna are distinctive Coryno antenna. Only Thienemanniella has a head of similar shape, but the antenna is only half the head length Antenna half headlength. Heterotanytarsus also has antennae as long as the head but the headcapsule is much wider.
C. gr. scutellata can be separated from the other Corynoneura by having a normal first lateral tooth Coryno scutell agg mentum. The other taxa all have a reduced first lateral tooth Coryno antennalis mentum9.
