Body
Small to medium sized larvae with a length up to 6 mm. Living larvae are white. Fringe of swimming hairs is absent.
Head
The head length is 0.55 - 0.60 mm with a cephalic index of 55-65 (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984a).
Antenna
The antennal segments are all yellow and the antennal ratio is 3 - 4. The ring organ is situated at 0.5 - 0.65 of the height of the first segment. The second segment distally has a U-shaped process, the tuning fork Kre tuningfork (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984a).
Mentum
Dorsomentum without teeth Kre mentum ligula paraligula.
Ligula and paraligula
Ligula with 5 brown teeth in a concave row. Paraligula with a long outer and a smaller inner tooth Kre mentum ligula paraligula.
Mandible
The mandible has a very large basal tooth and the accessory tooth is prominent Kre mandible.
Maxilla
The maxilla is short with an undivided basal segment.
Anal tubules
4 anal tubules which are longer than wide.
Posterior parapods
The claws of the posterior parapods are all yellow. No teeth on their inner margin.
Differential characteristics
In the tribe Pentaneurini, Krenopelopia has an unusually large basal mandibular tooth Kre mandible , in sized only surpassed by Natarsia. Natarsia however has a very small accessory tooth Nat mandible, a red to pink body (white in Krenopelopia) and lacks the tuning fork on the second antennal segment, a character that Krenopelopia shares with Monopelopia, Telmatopelopia and Xenopelopia.
