Genus Paramerina

Body
Small to medium sized larvae with a length up to 6 mm. Living larvae are white with rusty brown stains. The fringe of swimming hairs is absent.

Head
The head is 0.5 - 0.7 mm long with a cephalic index of 50 - 55% (Moller Pillot, 1984a)
Antenna
The second antennal segment may be brown and the tuning fork is missing. The ring organ is situated at 0.5 - 0.6 of the height of the first segment (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984a).
Mentum
Dorsomentum without teeth.
Ligula and paraligula
Ligula with 5 brown teeth in a straight row. Paraligula with a long outer and a much smaller inner tooth.
Mandible
The mandible has a large basal tooth.
Maxilla
The maxilla is short with the basal segment divided into 2 segments Par maxilla.
Anal tubules
4 anal tubules which are longer than wide.
Posterior parapods
Some claws on posterior parapods may be brown and one claw may have one inner tooth (P. cingulata) Par claw.

Differential characteristics
Of the Pentaneurini with a straight row of ligula teeth (Paramerina, Xenopelopia and Zavrelimyia) only Paramerina has a 2-segmented maxilla Par maxilla and the head length is smaller than in the other genera.
