Body
Large larvae up to 12 mm long. Living larvae are dark red with green stains. Claws on the posterior parapods are simpel. One pair of long ventral tubules on segment 11 Demeij 2 ventr tubules. Procercus and anal tubules present (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984a).
Head
The headcapsule is shining with labral sclerite 2 present and labral sclerite 1 partly fused with the frontoclypeal apotome. Frontoclypeal apotome with a large subapical depression. Three pairs of eyes Demeijerea head lateral.
Antenna
The antenna consists of 5 segments. The blade is shorter than the flagellum. Lauterborn organs distally on the second segment.
Mentum
The mentum has one broad median tooth which stand lower than the first and second of the six pairs of lateral teeth Demeijerea mentum. The ventromental plates as wide as the mentum.
Labrum
SI is simpel on both sides and labral lamellae are a toothed plate. The pecten epipharyngis with a distal row of teeth. The premandible has two apical teeth.
Mandible
The mandible without dorsal tooth, apical tooth with 2 inner teeth, The pecten mandibularis is present and seta interna with 4 toothed and plumose branches.
Differential characteristics
The combination of one pair of ventral tubules on segment 11 Demeij 2 ventr tubules and no dorsal tooth on the mandible separates Demeijerea from all other genera.
