Genus Paratendipes

Body
Small to medium sized larvae 4-8 mm long. Living larvae deep red. No lateral and ventral tubules (Wiederholm, 1983).
Head
The eyes are close together, partly fused or simpel. Anterior margin of the frontoclypeal apotome is narrowed anteriorly without a subapical pit. Labral sclerites 1 absent and sclerite 2 present.

Antenna
The antenna consists of 6 segments. The blade is mostly shorter than the flagellum. Lauterborn organs alternate on the second and third segment.
Mentum
The mentum has 4 median teeth and 6 pairs of lateral teeth Paratend albi mentum9. The median teeth are small equally sized Paratend albi mentum9 or the middle pairs is larger than the outer pairs (P. connectens 3 Lipina Paraten conn 3 mentum, Chernovskij, 1961). The first pairs of lateral teeth is smaller than the second pairs which are the largest. The ventromental plates are normal or very large in P. connectens 3 Lipina and P. intermedius Paratend intermedius mentum9 (Chernovskij, 1961).
Labrum
SI is plumose and labral lamellae form a single plate with numerous distal teeth. The pecten epipharyngis with single broad spines. The premandible has 2-3 teeth.
Mandible
The mandible with a strong pale dorsal tooth, apical tooth dark and 2 inner teeth, The pecten mandibularis is present and seta interna with 4 plumose branches.

Differential characteristics
Paratendipes, Omisus and Stictochironomus have 4 median mental teeth and alternating Lauterborn organs. The middle pairs of mental teeth in Omisus Omisus mentum and Stictochironomus Sticto mentum normal is smaller than the outer pairs. In Paratendipes the middle pairs is equal to or larger than the outer pairs Paratend albi mentum9.
