Body
Small larvae up to 5 mm long. The posterior parapods bear about 15 claws of which 3-4 consist of pads with spinules Virgatanytarsus anal claws (Wiederholm, 1983).
Head
The S3 is simpel.
Antenna
The antenna stands on a tall smooth pedestal and consists of 5 segments. The basal segment is longer than the flagellum. Segment 2 is cylindrical to slightly wedge-shaped and longer than the third segment. The small Lauterborn organs distally on segment 2 with a long pedestal about 1.5-2.5x the length of segment 3-5 Virgatanytarsus antenna.
Mentum
The mentum has a rounded to pointed median tooth and 5 pairs of lateral teeth. The ventromental plates are close together medially and wider than the mentum Virgatanytarsus mentum.
Labrum
SI is a comb and labral lamellae form a single plate with numerous apical teeth. The pecten epipharyngis consists of 3 smooth plates with distal teeth. The premandible has 3 apical and 2 inner teeth.
Mandible
The mandible with a pale dorsal tooth, apical tooth and 3 inner teeth. The pecten mandibularis is present and seta interna with branches.
Differential characteristics
The anal claws with pads of small spinules are distinctive. Otherwise the genus is identical to Tanytarsus from which it is separated (Pinder, 1982).
