(Verneaux, 1970)
Body
Medium sized larvae with a length up to 8 mm. Living larvae are red. Fringe of swimming hairs is absent (Wiederholm, 1983).
Head
The head length is 0.6 - 0.7 mm with a cephalic index of 55 - 65% (Wiederholm, 1983).
Antenna
The antennal segments are all yellow and the antennal ratio is about 3.8. The ring organ is situated at 0.6 - 0.7 of the height of the first segment. The second segment is normal and lacks a tuning fork (Wiederholm, 1983).
Mentum
Dorsomentum without teeth.
Ligula and paraligula
Ligula with 5 brown teeth in a concave row. Paraligula with a long outer and a smaller inner tooth Telop ligula paraligula.
Mandible
The mandible has a large basal tooth and a prominent accessory tooth Telop mandible.
Maxilla
The maxilla is short and the basal segment undivided.
Anal tubules
4 anal tubules which are longer than wide.
Posterior parapods
All claws on posterior parapods are yellow without teeth on the inner margin.
Differential characteristics
The Pentaneurini with a concave ligula Telop ligula paraligula, a large basal tooth on the mandible Telop mandible and simpel claws on the posterior parapods are the genera Ablabesmyia, Telopelopia and Trissopelopia. Of these Telopelopia has by far the smallest head length (0.6 - 0.7 mm vs 0.9 - 1.5 mm in the other genera). Telopelopia is confined to large rivers, a biotope where Trissopelopia is missing and Ablabesmyia is very rare.
