(Kieffer, 1919)
Body
Medium sized larvae up to 7 mm long. Living larvae grayish. Body setae pale and indistinct. The anterior and posterior parapods are separate and bear rows of claws. Procercus is about twice as high as wide with 8 anal and 2 subapical setae. Two pairs of anal tubules present (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984b).
Head
Antenna
The antenna consists of four segments. First segment long and segments 3 and 4 are small. The blade is subequal to the flagellum. Lauterborn organs are small but distinct Odontomesa fulva antenna.
Mentum
The mentum has one median broad domed tooth and 7 pairs of lateral teeth Odontomesa fulva mentum. The ventromental plates are very broad with two rows of diverging setae in the same way as the striae on the plates of Chironomini. Additional 2 very strong seta on the lateral side of the plates.
Labrum
The pecten epipharyngis consists of two brushes of thin setae. SI with a simpel basal segment and a distal segment with a fringe of hairs Odontomesa fulva S1. The labral lamellae are broad and pectinate. The premandible has 2 thin apical and 2 inner teeth. (Wiederholm, 1983).
Mandible
The mandible is unique Odontomesa fulva mandible. It has an apical tooth and 3 indistinct inner teeth. The seta interna is fan-shaped with more than 30 setae connected to each other in the proximal half. The seta subdentalis apparently absent. On the outer margin an additional seta resembling the seta interna of most Orthocldiinae and in the apical corner a brush of setae. (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984).
Differential characteristics
The mentum Odontomesa fulva mentum , ventromental plates, SI Odontomesa fulva S1 and mandible Odontomesa fulva mandible are all distinctive.
