Cricotopus lygropis

Body
Medium sized larvae up to 6.4 mm long (Ashe and Murray, 1980). The procercus is present but reduced. Two pairs of anal tubules present. On the abdominal segments the L4 is short and simpel (Ashe and Murray, 1980).

Head
The head is dark brown to black.
Antenna
The antenna consists of five segments. Antenna reduced, only 0.4 the length of the mandible.
Mentum
The mentum has one median tooth and 5 or 6 pairs of lateral teeth. The ventromental plates are weak and the beard is absent.
Labrum
The pecten epipharyngis consists of three scales, the median reduced to a small spine (Wiederholm, 1983). SI is bifid. The premandible has two apical teeth.
Mandible
The mandible with an apical tooth and 3 inner teeth. The seta interna is present.

Differential characteristics
Nostococladius differs from Cricotopus in the following aspects:
Head dark brown, no tufts of setae on the L4, reduced antenna and procercus and the reduced median scale of the pecten epipharyngis. Nostococladius differs from Euorthocladius and Eudactylocladius by the reduced antenna and procercus and the reduced median scale of the pecten epipharyngis.
