Body
Medium sized larvae up to 5 mm long. The body is covered with brown setae. The anterior parapods are separate Epoic flavens anal segments. The two posterior parapods bear rows of claws of two different types. Procercus and only one pair of anal tubules present (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984b).
Head
The head length is 0.25 - 0.33 mm (Moller Pillot, 1984b).
Antenna
The antenna consists of four segments. Segment 4 is longer than segment 3. The blade is longer than the flagellum. Lauterborn organs are absent (Wiederholm, 1983).
Mentum
The mentum shows 6 median teeth in uncompressed head. There are 5 pairs of lateral teeth. The ventromental plates cover part of the mentum. The beard is absent Epoic flavens mentum.
Labrum
The pecten epipharyngis consists of three needle like spines, SI is simpel and the premandible has two apical teeth (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984b).
Mandible
The mandible has an apical tooth and 3 indistinct inner teeth Epoic flavens mandible. The seta interna has simpel branches (Wiederholm, 1983).
Differential characteristics
The body covered with stout hairs is distinctive Epoic flavens anal segments. Also the form of the mentum is unique in the Orthocladiinae Epoic flavens mentum.
