Pseudorthocladius curtistylus

Goetghebuer, 1932

Body
Medium sized larvae up to 6 mm long. Living larvae have a yellow-green spotted thorax and pale yellow or green abdomen. The anterior parapods are reduced and fused basely. The two posterior parapods bear rows of claws. The procercus bears an exceptionally long seta about 25-35% of the length of the body Pseudorth procerc seta 8. The two pairs of anal tubules present are constricted (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984b).

Head
The head length is about 0.3 mm (Moller Pillot, 1984b).
Antenna
The antenna consists of five segments. Segment 3 much shorter than segment 4. The blade is subequal to the flagellum. Lauterborn organs are small Pseud curt antenna.
Mentum
The mentum has two weakly divided median teeth and 4 pairs of lateral teeth. The ventromental plates are weak. The beard is absent Pseud curt mentum.
Labrum
The pecten epipharyngis consists of three weak spines, SI is serrate (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984b).
Mandible
The mandible has an apical tooth and 3 inner teeth. The seta interna has plumose branches (Wiederholm, 1983).

Differential characteristics
The very long hair on the procercus Pseudorth procerc seta 8 is distinctive for Pseudorthocladius, Krenosmittia and Parachaetocladius. Only P. curtistylus is a lowland species however (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984b).
