Paralauterborniella nigrohalteralis

Body
Small larvae up to 5 mm long. Living larvae red. No lateral and ventral tubules (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984a).

Head
Anterior margin of frontal apotome is straight without a subapical pit. Labral sclerite 1 absent and sclerite 2 is present.
Antenna
The antenna consists of 6 segments. Segment 4 shorter than segment 1. The blade is as long as the flagellum. Lauterborn organs alternate on segments 2 and 3.
Mentum
The mentum has one large yellow mental tooth and 6 pairs of darker lateral teeth Paralaut mentum. The ventromental plates 1.3x as wide as the mentum.
Labrum
SI is plumose and labral lamellae a single plate with numerous distal teeth. The premandible has 2 apical teeth.
Mandible
The mandible without a dorsal tooth, apical tooth slender and 3 inner teeth, all teeth yellow. The pecten mandibularis narrow and seta interna with 4 plumose branches.

Differential characteristics
Paralauterborniella is the only genus with a single median mental tooth Paralaut mentum and alternating Lauterborn organs.
