(Meigen, 1818)
Body
Small to medium sized larvae 7 mm long. Living larvae deep red. No lateral and ventral tubules (Chernovskij, 1961; Wiederholm, 1983).
Head
Anterior margin of the frontoclypeal apotome is narrowed anteriorly without a subapical pit. Labral sclerites 1 absent and sclerite 2 present.
Antenna
The antenna consists of 6 segments. The blade is shorter than the flagellum. Lauterborn organs alternate on the second and third segment.
Mentum
The mentum has 4 median teeth and 6 pairs of lateral teeth. The median teeth are small and equal in size Paratend albi mentum9. The first pair of lateral teeth is smaller than the second pair which are the largest teeth. The ventromental plates are a little wider than the mentum width.
Labrum
SI is plumose and labral lamellae form a single plate with numerous distal teeth. The pecten epipharyngis with single broad spines.
Mandible
The mandible with a strong pale dorsal tooth, apical tooth dark and 2 inner teeth, The pecten mandibularis is present and seta interna with 4 plumose branches.
Differential characteristics
Paratendipes, Omisus and Stictochironomus have 4 median mental teeth and alternating Lauterborn organs. The middle pair of mental teeth in Omisus Omisus mentum and Stictochironomus Sticto mentum normal is smaller than the outer pair. In Paratendipes the middle pair is equal to or larger than the outer pairs Paratend albi mentum9.
P. albimanus can be separated from the other Paratendipes by the 4 median teeth equally large and smaller than the first lateral tooth.
