Zavreliella marmorata

Kieffer, 1920

Body
Small to medium sized larvae 4-7 mm long. Living larvae pale red with a dorsal hump in segment 1. One pair of long ventrolateral tubules on the 10th segment Zavreliella anal segments 8. Larvae with a transportable case which is flattened laterally Zavreliella case (Wiederholm, 1983; Moller Pillot, 1984a).

Head
The frontoclypeal apotome and labral sclerite 2 are present. Sclerite 1 is absent.
Antenna
The antenna consists of 6 segments. The blade is a little longer than the flagellum. Lauterborn organs alternate on the distal end of segment 2 and 3.
Mentum
The mentum has two median tooth and 6 pairs of lateral teeth. The first lateral pairs are very small Zavreliella mentum. The ventromental plates 0.7-0.9x as wide as the mentum. Setae submenti simpel.
Labrum
SI is plumose on one side and labral lamellae a single plate with many distal teeth. The pecten epipharyngis with three separate plates and distal teeth, resembling Tanytarsus, Micropsectra and other Tanytarsini genera. The premandible has three apical teeth.
Mandible
The mandible with a very long dorsal tooth, apical tooth dark and 2 inner teeth, The pecten mandibularis is present and seta interna with 4 toothed and plumose branches.

Differential characteristics
Zavreliella and Lauterborniella are the only Chiromini genera with a transportable case Lauterb Zavreliella case. Zavreliella has latero-ventral tubules on segment 10 Zavreliella anal segments 8 (Lauterborniella on segment 11 Lauterb anal segments) and segments 11 and 12 in the line with the longitudinal axis (Lauterbornia right angle).
