Lithotanytarsus emarginatus

(Goetghebuer, 1933)

Body
Small to medium sized larvae up to 5 mm long. The posterior parapods bear numerous simpel claws (Wiederholm, 1983).

Head
The S3 is simpel.
Antenna
The antenna stands on a small pedestal with 2 conical processes in the middle and consists of 5 segments. The basal segment is a little longer than the flagellum. Segment 2 is cylindrical and longer than the remaining segments. The large Lauterborn organs distally on segment 2, pedestals of Lauterborn organs are absent Lithotan emarg antenna.
Mentum
The mentum is very pale with a simpel median tooth and 5 pairs of lateral teeth. The ventromental plates are close together medially and wider than the mentum Lithotan emarg mentum.
Labrum
SI is a comb and labral lamellae a single plate with numerous apical teeth. The pecten epipharyngis consists of 3 very small lobes. The premandible has 2 teeth.
Mandible
The mandible with a dorsal tooth, apical tooth and 2 inner teeth all yellow brown. The pecten mandibularis is present and seta interna with branches.

Differential characteristics
The 2 conical processes on the antennal pedestal are distinctive Lithotan emarg antenna. The sessile Lauterborn organs are a shared character with Thienemanniola which has a large distal proces on its pedestal Thienemanniola antenna.
