Genus Propsilocerus

Body
Medium sized larvae up to 8 mm long. The body setae are simpel. The anterior and posterior parapods are separate and bear rows of claws. Procercus longer than wide with an apical spur. Two pairs of anal tubules present (Wiederholm, 1983).

Head
On the dorsal surface with a frontoclypeal apotome (Wiederholm, 1983).
Antenna
The antenna consists of four segments. The blade is shorter than the flagellum. Lauterborn organs are present.
Mentum
The mentum has one median broad tooth with an irregular anterior margin and 7 pairs of lateral teeth, with sometimes a very small 8th pair near the base of the mentum. The median and first lateral teeth are lighter than the other laterals. The ventromental plates are long. The beard is absent Props mentum (Wiederholm, 1983).
Labrum
The pecten epipharyngis consists of three elongate scales, SI is plumose and the premandible has two apical teeth (Wiederholm, 1983).
Mandible
The mandible has an apical tooth and 4 inner teeth. The seta interna has serrate branches (Wiederholm, 1983).

Differential characteristics
Propsilocerus can easily be identified by the mentum with 7-8 pairs of lateral teeth Props mentum and the spur on the procercus.
